Structured Workshop Curriculum

The Up with People curriculum is based on experiential education principles and is therefore highly individualized and self-directed. Students are directly involved and proactive in their learning. Structured activities, combined with practical application, are the basis for the curriculum. The UWP classroom setting is fluid, and each environment is developed to cultivate specific concepts or skills.

Up with People’s structured curriculum workshops all share these underlying goals:

* Raise the student’s self-awareness as well as awareness of his/her cultural and physical

environments

* Develop critical thinking capacity

* Empower students to act responsibly, effectively, and collaboratively with others

Evaluation of a student’s work is not expressed in terms of competitive grades. Rather, student success is measured by each individual’s response to day-to-day programmatic and reflective activities which are then recorded in student’s individual portfolios.

The structured workshops in the core curriculum are focused on seven units (for a total of 18 credits per semester) that follow a scope and sequence designed to develop skills,competencies and critical thinking abilities in an intercultural and global context.
